Claude Cowork
Course Description
Overview
Claude Cowork extends Claude beyond single-turn chat into a working session: learners describe a desired outcome, and Claude plans, executes, and delivers a completed result — a polished document, an organized folder, a synthesized research summary — while the learner steers along the way. This course takes participants from first launch to confident daily use.Through instructor-led demonstration and hands-on labs, participants will run real multi-step tasks in Cowork, configure permissions and scope so Claude works safely within defined boundaries, set up plugins and skills that match their own workflows, and practice the kind of active steering that keeps longer-running tasks on track. The course closes with a capstone lab in which each participant builds and presents a real deliverable using Cowork.
Objectives
- Explain how Claude Cowork differs from Claude Chat and Claude Code, and identify which tool fits a given task
- Launch and complete an end-to-end Cowork task from a plain-language goal
- Configure folder and tool permissions so Claude works only within an approved scope
- Set up and apply plugins and skills that match a specific role or workflow
- Connect Cowork to other tools and data sources to extend a task's reach
- Schedule recurring tasks and monitor progress from another device
- Steer, correct, and review a multi-step task before accepting the final output
- Apply responsible-use practices when delegating work to an autonomous agent
Topics
- Cowork vs. Chat vs. Code: what each is built for, and when to use which
- The underlying agent architecture: how Cowork plans, executes, and hands back work
- Where Cowork tasks run (cloud-based, isolated environment) and what that means for persistence and access from other devices
- Choosing which folders, files, and tools Claude can access
- Approval settings: what requires sign-off before Claude proceeds (e.g., deletions)
- Lab: setting up a safe, scoped workspace for a real task
- Writing an effective task goal in plain language
- Watching Claude plan and break work into subtasks
- Reviewing, correcting, and steering a task mid-run
- Lab: complete an end-to-end task producing a polished document or spreadsheet
- Finding and enabling plugins that extend what Claude can do
- Creating a simple custom skill for a recurring workflow
- Connecting external tools and data sources to extend a task's reach
- Lab: configure a plugin or skill matched to the participant's own role
- Setting up recurring (daily, weekly, monthly) tasks
- Monitoring and checking in on a running task from another device
- Recognizing when a task has drifted and how to redirect it
- Responsible-use practices when delegating work to an autonomous agent
- Participants select a real task from their own work
- Configure scope, run the task, and steer it to completion
- Present the finished deliverable and share what they'd automate next
