Course Description
Overview
Most of us have experienced the reality of virtual meetings and presentations during our forced stays at home during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it is virtual team meetings, client engagements, or even conferences, the situation we find ourselves in is likely to continue well into the future and become an increasing component even in the ‘new normal’ in at least a hybrid form. If you are not familiar with Zoom, MS Teams, GoToMeeting, and Google Meet or are not sure if you can do well as an on-line presenter, you could be facing a challenge. This one-day workshop will give participants valuable insights into how to present in a virtual environment using the most popular delivery platforms.Objectives
- Know the differences between virtual and in-person presentations
- Outline the major challenges (presenter, presentation and technical) with virtual presentations
- Recognize the strengths, weaknesses, and standout features of popular virtual presentation platforms (Zoom, MS Teams, GoToMeeting and Google Meet) and how to set up an account on the platforms.
- Integrate solutions to virtual presentation challenges in their own delivery of virtual presentations
Topics
- You will spend the first part of the day getting to know participants and discussing what will take place during the workshop. Students will also have an opportunity to identify their personal learning objectives.
- In this session, we explore the reasons that virtual presentations and meetings are going to be part of our lives for the future. We also quickly look at the basic types of presentations.
- This session focuses on how virtual and in-person presentations are different.
- In this session, we discuss challenges that we can encounter when doing virtual presentations. We think about some simple ways to overcome these challenges.
- Next, we focus on the presenter and the challenges that they encounter with virtual presentations and some solutions to address the challenges. As well, we explore the importance of etiquette and hospitality in making great presentations. Lastly, we talk about the roles if we are lucky enough to have others helping us deliver a virtual presentation.
- After outlining some tools that can be used in presentation preparation, we identify challenges that we can encounter with virtual presentations and some solutions to address the challenges. We also explore the use of Breakout Rooms and the need to engage all learning types.
- Next, we look at things we can do to decrease the chances of running into technical problems.
- In this session, we learn about Zoom features, how to set up an account, its strengths and weaknesses and brainstorm its standout features.
- This session teaches about Microsoft Teams features, how to set up an account, its strengths and weaknesses and brainstormed its standout features.
- In this session, we learn about GoToMeeting features, how to set up an account, its strengths and weaknesses and brainstormed its standout features.
- Next, we learn about Google Meet features, how to set up an account, its strengths and weaknesses and brainstormed its standout features.
- To bring together what was learned in the workshop, in this session small teams deliver a virtual presentation using one of the virtual presentation platforms.
- At the end of the course, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out an action plan.
