Claude Practitioner for Solutions Architects
Course Description
Overview
This Claude Practitioner for Solutions Architects course builds the architectural judgment that distinguishes a solution architect from a builder — and proves it in code. Participants learn to select architecture patterns, design and build tool and MCP interfaces, stand up evaluation frameworks, plan for the production failure modes that derail Claude deployments, and treat context as an architectural concern. The emphasis is on design and decision-making, but every major decision is exercised hands-on so architects can validate their own designs rather than only specify them. CL-200 is the architect-specific practitioner course in the CCA-F path; CL-300 then takes the same learners deep into full system implementation. Objectives
- Select the appropriate agentic architecture pattern — single-loop, hub-and-spoke coordinator, or pipeline — for a given problem class
- Design tool and MCP server interfaces with descriptions, input boundaries, and structured error responses, and build a working interface to validate model tool selection against it
- Design evaluation frameworks for Claude-based systems, including offline regression suites and production sampling
- Apply production reliability patterns including retry-with-feedback, validation loops, and confidence-calibrated human review routing
- Treat context management as an architectural concern: persistent fact blocks, tool output trimming, and position-aware organization
- Diagnose the five production failure patterns in Claude-based systems and prescribe remediation
- Build and review a small Claude-based system end to end: select a pattern, implement it, evaluate it, and conduct an architecture review against the CCA-F exam scenarios
Audience
Prerequisites
- Successful completion of CL-100A: Claude Foundations or CL-100B: Claude Foundations, Accelerated, or equivalent knowledge
- Working experience with at least one production API integration; familiarity with asynchronous programming patterns is recommended.
Topics
- When a single Claude call is the right answer — and when it isn't
- Agentic versus deterministic workflows: the decision boundary
- Mapping problem classes to the CCA-F exam scenarios
- Single-agent loops: when one agent with the right tools is enough
- Hub-and-spoke coordinator-subagent architecture and when it earns its complexity
- Pipeline and prompt-chaining patterns for predictable multi-stage work
- Selecting between dynamic decomposition and pre-structured chains
- Lab: select and justify a pattern for two production scenarios
- Tool interface design: descriptions, input boundaries, edge case documentation
- Structured error responses for intelligent coordinator recovery
- Tool distribution across multi-agent systems and the cost of over-tooling
- Resources versus tools: when to expose content catalogs
- Lab: design a tool interface, build a working version, and measure model selection reliability against it
- (Full MCP server implementation and multi-agent integration follow in CL-300)
- Offline evaluation: regression suites and golden sets
- Online evaluation: production sampling and drift detection
- Designing graders that match the failure modes you actually care about
- Lab: design an evaluation framework for a customer support resolution agent
- Retry-with-error-feedback for model self-correction
- Validation loops and self-correction flows
- Distinguishing retryable format errors from unresolvable absent information
- Confidence-calibrated human review routing thresholds
- The lost-in-the-middle effect and its design implications
- Persistent case fact blocks for transactional information
- Trimming verbose tool outputs before context accumulation
- Scratchpad patterns and subagent delegation for extended sessions
- Context degradation and progressive summarization risks
- Tool output accumulation
- Escalation failures and unreliable confidence proxies
- Error suppression and silent failures
- Attribution loss across agent handoffs
- Select a pattern and build a small working Claude-based system for a realistic scenario
- Stand up a lightweight evaluation harness and interpret the results
- Conduct a structured architecture review against the CCA-F exam scenarios
- Identify which failure patterns the design is exposed to and prescribe remediation
