Overview
This ViewPoint course is designed to teach students all aspects of ViewPoint from beginning to end. This will include the setup, management, and daily use of ViewPoint in order to manage a Teradata system.Teradata has placed many of the system reporting and database administration functions inside ViewPoint.

- What is a Portal? A system Management Tool. When the portal page is active, all the portlets will continue to update on that page.
- What are Portlets? A system management tool with a specific purpose.
- The Controls of Portlets: Rewind, Share Portlet, Expand, Remove, Preferences, Maximize, and Minimize.
- What is Viewpoint Scratchpad?
- Allows users to enter queries and retrieve data from a system.
- Has a History Function!
- Object Browser can view object list in a system and/or insert an object into the query.
- My Queries Portlet
- Provides Information about Queries and Sessions
- Checks the Queries that are Running
- Checks what queries are queued or blocked as well as query impact on the system resource
- Detailed View drill down on selected sessions
- Remote Console
- Is a portlet that allows certain users to run many database console utilities remotely
- Must have required permissions to run.
- You can display responses from commands, enter utility commands, and select or search for a system or a utility.
- Query Monitor
- This commonly used Portlet monitors Teradata System Sessions and it monitors queries.
- The ability to analyze how a query works and to see its importance and usefulness.
- Has Display/Filter Options
- Query Monitor Detail View will show you statistics and information about chosen sessions. You can access the view by clicking on the session row in the Summary View.
- Alert Viewer
- You can view alerts that are created for the system. These alerts are timestamp so you’ll know when the alert takes place!
- You can filter via type, name, time, severity level, or a combination of those.
- Will tell you what and who triggered the Alert.
- System Health
- Will watch and display the health of a selected system
- Very commonly used Portlet
- Very customizable
- Productivity Portlet
- Allows Users to analyze trends in a system.
- Can display current versus historical trends of factors like system health, query amount per hourly basis, and canary queries.
- Reexamine Viewpoints, Portlets, and Examples of Portlets.
